Fundraiser 2024/25 - Brigs

2024/25 Brigs Winter Fundraiser

Playfair Has a Holiday Wish List

Please Help Make Her Wishes Come True

At this time, we are asking for support for three specific winter projects as we get Playfair ready for another great summer season.   We encourage you to donate early and often and let's see which item reaches its' goal first.  You can donate for a single item or if you want to spread the joy around feel free to donate to two or all three.  You will need to enter each donations separately so we can track the support for each item.

Playfair Needs a new Maintop Spreader

Goal of $3000

The maintop spreader is made of wood and has been repaired in the past and is nearing replacement. A few years back, St Lawrence II replaced theirs with an aluminum one instead of wood. As the repairs to the wooden spreader over time tend to rot and delaminate, replacing it with an aluminum spreader when the time comes will be more durable. The aluminum spreader will be built to look the same as the wooden one, as is the case on SL2.

Playfair Needs a new Staysail

Goal of $5000

Several of Playfair's sails are approaching replacement age. A sharp needle and countless hours at winter program being sewn back together by successive generations of crew have kept them flying, but this summer the main staysail went out in a blaze of glory in some end of August Lake Huron weather. She ripped her last rip while rolling down to Southampton after circumnavigating Manitoulin Island, and is ready for retirement. We are looking for your help to commission a new staysail

Playfair needs a good as new repaired Bowsprit

Goal of $5000

Playfair's bowsprit has been in through thick and thin since it was built back in 1990. This summer we found a patch of rot growing below the surface, along the edge of an old repair. The rot was cut out and patched up so that it could see out the season, and we are now preparing to do a full repair over the winter. The temporary patch and surrounding area will be carved out, and a new piece of Douglas Fir will be scarfed in with epoxy.
