Trip Description
Brigs' adult sails are more than just a leisurely sail. You will be an active member of the ship's company, learning the ropes (literally) as well as how to steer, stand lookout, learn the names of the parts of this kind of ship, and join in essential elements of communal life on board including cooking and cleaning. No previous experience is necessary, the ship's crew will teach you everything you need to know and you will have plenty of opportunity to practice.
On Adult Sail 1, we'll begin with open water sailing, and a chance to really develop as a team as we sail against the southwest winds! When you sign onto the ship, you will take part in an induction that includes thorough safety briefing, getting to know the other participants and crew, learning how to live on board and the basics of how to sail the ship, all of which you will then be practicing and building on over the course of the voyage.
We will then depart from our homeport of Hamilton, known for the bustling steel industry, impressive lift-bridge, and post-apocalyptic views. On the way to east, you will practice setting sail, tacking, and getting used to life on board. We'll end the voyage in the beautiful Thousand Islands in the St.Lawrence river, sailing past historic Fort Henry on our way to Brockville. This is an amazing spot to try your hand at a bit of traditional navigation. What's more, it's a Tall Ship festival year, so we're likely to share the lakes with several impressive vessels!
